WEST 5TH AVENUE (Heritage)
Vancouver, BC, 1998-99
"A neighbourhood is
defined by the quality
of its HOUSING and its PARKS"
~ Rob Sieniuc
Originally constructed by Waghorn, Gwynn, and Co., this heritage home a was completed in 1913-14. It is a good example of a Craftsman style house that was found in the Kitsilano area during this era. The home is clad with wood shingles and has a full front porch. The peak of the gable end contains half-timber detailing and pebbled stucco atop a square bay window on decorative consoles. The porch gable repeats the details of the main gable.
Broadway Architects assisted the owners in restoring, and adding an addition to the home. The house was also repainted with a historical colour scheme.
Broadway Architects received a "City of Vancouver Heritage Award of Recognition" for the sensitive rehabilitation of this heritage home.
