The McKernan Communitiy Centre is located in Edmonton's historic McKernan neighbourhood—one of the city's older established communities.  The neighbourhood and its housing were build on top of the old McKernan Lake/Wetlands bed—drained circa 1948 to make way for city housing and community facilities.

The McKernan Community Centre project is a major addition and expansion to the community league’s older, dated facility. The new Community Centre provides gathering space for the McKernan neighbourhood and is also home to the McKernan Child Care Society, and the Alberta Adapt Abilities Program. The Community Centre's form, with articulated roofs and gables, has been designed to integrate with the existing residential neighbourhood.  (in conjunction with Lee deRidder Architects).
