ROSSDALE CLOVERDALE MASTER PLAN (River Valley)
City of Edmonton Winter Cities Competition 1983
"To trace the history of a river,
is to trace the history of the soul."
~ Gretel Ehrlich
Our Master Plan for the Rossdale and Cloverdale neighbourhoods in Edmonton, Alberta won four first place awards in the Urban Planning Winter City Design competition. Our design concept called for the reorganization of roadways, introduction of bicycle paths, a new river ferry system, pedestrian walkways, provision of major open space, introduction of community garden plots, retention of historic buildings, re-purposing of the low-level bridge for community and restaurant use, and the use of renewable and energy conservation strategies. A gondola crossing the North Saskatchewan river was also proposed to tie the two inner city communities to the downtown core. It one of western Canada's very early sustainable eco community plans.
